What Are Lip Fillers?
Lip fillers are high-quality cosmetic injectables that can be used to change the definition, shape and volume of the lips.
The terms “lip augmentation”, “lip injections” and “lip plumping” all describe the same procedure.
How Are Lip Fillers Used?
Lip fillers are primarily used to provide lips with more definition, shape, volume and symmetry. They can also be used to smooth out and soften facial lines.
Why Might Fillers Be Needed?
Ageing often causes lips to lose the subcutaneous tissue and fat that gives them volume. This loss of volume can cause thinning of the lips and lead to the development of wrinkles and fine lines around the lips. Lip fillers can temporarily reverse this situation.
Lips that are naturally thin or lack definition or symmetry can also be augmented using fillers.
Are Lip Fillers Safe?
While this is a treatment that is considered to be relatively safe, there is a risk of adverse reactions and unplanned outcomes during invasive procedures. Any practitioner who says otherwise is not being completely transparent.
That’s why we spend time getting to know all about you: your health, past experiences with injectables, and what outcome you are seeking. We spend time examining every element of your smile. We’ll make an accurate diagnosis before offering treatment.
Your treatment will be provided by Dr Dee-Anna Luong, a highly-skilled and experienced dentist, who only uses the highest quality injectables.
Following your treatment, we tell you what to expect, how to care for your treated lips, and what to do if you are concerned.
How Long Does The Treatment Last?
It can take several weeks after treatment before the full effects of the treatment are visible. The effects last between 4-9 months: there is quite a wide variation amongst individuals.
Do Lips Look Natural After Being Treated With Fillers?
We know that people generally don’t want to “look like a duck” after having their lips enhanced. Some want the most subtle of changes, while others would like noticeable changes which don’t look fake.
If it’s natural-looking lips that you’re looking for, you’re in good hands here at Alma Dental.
We love to design lips that relate beautifully to your teeth, the rest of your face and even your personality.
Your Treatment
You’ll first be invited to meet Dr Dee for a consultation. She’ll ask you about your desired treatment outcomes and will plan your treatment based on your wishes and her findings from her examination of your smile. You can read about this in detail on our lip enhancements page.
At your treatment appointment, your lips will first be numbed using a topical anaesthetic cream. This avoids the need for local anaesthetic injections which can distort the anatomy of the lips.
Dr Dee will then use the injectable lip fillers to enhance your lips, a process that usually requires 15-30 minutes.
There is usually no downtime following treatment, but you may need to use ice to minimise swelling and bruising.
You’ll be invited to return 2-3 weeks for a review appointment. During this appointment, minor adjustments to your appearance can be made if necessary.
