Dental First Aid: What Do I Do If I Develop An Abscess?
A dental abscess is very painful. It is caused by an infection in your tooth or gum. It can often be detected by severe pain and/or a pus pimple on your gums.
If untreated, this infection can not only cause serious damage to the tooth, but can also cause damage to the surrounding tissues and teeth and could spread to the rest of the body. For this reason it’s important to book an emergency appointment with one of our dentists as soon as you can.
To alleviate the immediate discomfort of the abscess, we recommend you try taking over-the-counter pain relief. You can also bathe the affected area with a warm salt-water mouth rinse every 1 to 2 hours if possible.
