Head, Neck & Jaw Pain Management
We are here to help you smile with confidence
Temporomandibular disorders, or TMD, are problems with your jaw and the muscles that control your face. These problems may present themselves in the form of head, neck or jaw pain. This is not to be confused with your Temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, which is the hinge that connects your jaw to your skull, near your ear. This joint facilitates the movement of your jaw and its potential problems may present in the form of clicking, shaking or deviation on jaw opening.
TMD can originate from a misaligned bite, called malocclusion, or from physical, emotional, or psychological stress. It is commonly associated with bruxism (clenching or grinding of your teeth), and can present symptoms of pain or tenderness in the muscles in your head, neck or jaw.
We offer a number of different treatment options for TMD problems. These include:
- Muscle relaxants, such as dry needling (acupuncture)
- Removable splints
- Occlusal (bite) adjustments
- Dental appliances/orthodontic treatment
- Repair of damaged or broken teeth caused by bruxism
